Ways to differentiate instruction:
- modify assignments so that students do not have to complete the entire assignment (interview summary vs. interview essay)
- allow for pictures or dictated responses in journal entry (provided on risk journal)
- chunk activities - allow students to complete a part, take a break, and then come back to it
- allow extended time
- flexible pairing/grouping of students - ESL with English speaker, low reader with high reader, etc.
- clarify in Spanish for Spanish speakers & in English for English speakers (dual language classroom)
- Idaho Adventure textbook readings are available online for vision-impaired students
- offer additional options for final products - board games, posters, etc.
- Mini-Lessons: offered to support student-learning; can be tailored to meet specific needs of small groups of students
- Formative Assessments: lots of check-in's during the process are provided to ensure students are on their way to success
- Allow for reflection and revision of all projects assessed

Technology Support:
Research - All students have knowledge of accessing the internet, research on our online library resources as well as Discovery Education and general computer skills going into this project. Student readers will be provided from one of these two texts: Westward Expansion or Oregon Trail as well as from the Idaho Adventure Textbook. We will review researching methods during our direct instruction time in the first three weeks during History & Daily Five as seen in the Project Timeline.
Notetaking - A student risk taking journals, risk story checklist, and interview summary form will be provided to assist students in note-taking during the risk reader & interview process. As well as "In Your Own Words" journal time during the Idaho Adventure textbook reading. We will review researching methods during our direct instruction time in the first three weeks during History & Daily Five as seen in the Project Timeline. This includes Google Apps for Education specifically Google Docs and being able to access required research links as seen in the Tools & Resources-Student Resources.
